    Decent arguement on education. I do think there needs to be less of a push for college if kids don't want to do it and more Vo-Tech type schools available. We have them back home in Virginia Beach. I think there's still a mindset that parents want their kids to do better than they did, so college seems to be the right answer. Well, so what if your kid doesn't become some bigshot somewhere. Honestly, as long as you love doing the job you do, who cares?

    It's especially important to teach kids skills they can use when the only alternatives are picking veggies and selling drugs. It's tough to give kids perspective when they don't want it. ARRGH!

    Yeah, I can agree to that last statement. The last thing on my mind was going to college right away. It was military all the way for me. However, I still needed to get a good education to score high on the ASVAB. I might have done better if I hadn't fallen asleep in the middle of the test...............

    I just think kids need to know all their options instead of being pushed to go to college.

    And, how about we just say I'm in good company;)

    In Florida we had a governor (an imported one from Texas who was kin to the guy in DC)who really didn't like vo-tec. That's part of our testing problem. Also, FYI, the Peace Corps requires a Bachelor's degree-- so it is for college grads who still don't know what they want to be when they grow up. Mary T in C-town

    Man anon, that bites. I think VoTech does wonders for kids. I'm wondering if Amarillo even offers that here. It would be good to think they do.

    Just listened to your last show. What a highly informative and mostly entertaining show. I pretty much agreed with all of the education stuff. One thing, neither of you were what I would call "Popular" in high school. I know it stings. I got used to it, and so will you in time.

    I went to 4 years of college to do something I could have done if I worked at Wal-Mart straight out of high school... College is over rated sometimes.

    I don't think college is the problem, it's that people go for no reason. It's not a good place to "figure yourself out." Why spend $40,000 to do that when you can go camping with your friends or just work for a while... it's the way our system is set up that makes people with no business in college feel like they have to go. 99% of the college grads I know should have just worked at Wal-Mart from age 16.

    I agree. And because of this higher influx of students, the colleges have made up specialized majors to help more students graduate in turn making their graduation rate higher. My wife graduated with a degree in conservation biology. 20 years ago that degree didn't exist. I'm a college dropout and I make more money than my wife.

    Or maybe parents could stop pushing their kids to go to college so much. I learned my trade in the Army. Yes, it took six years of my life, but I was already working on helicopters after so many months. Why? Because the school is only so good without the hands on.

    College should be more of an option AFTER you've decided you want to further your education in the field that you're in, if it doesn't require higher learning directly out of high school. Of course there are careers where college needs to happen right away, but not every freaking job works that way.
