A senator should be able to go to work and fulfill their duities and not see a single lobbyist if they do not want to... Or is this not doing their job? I don't know if this is possible. What about Right to Petition? 20 lobbyists for each legisator?

Every public official should have a 5-10 min podcast 3-4 times per week. this would take no time at all and would help people to understand much better what's going on in their government. We no longer need the media to keep in touch with our law makers, we should communicate directly.

What about this Harvard Professor?

  1. OK, My thoughts on the Professor Race issue. I'm going to try to convey this without sounding racist. I am the same kind of racist as Dave Chappelle. I realize there are differences among the races and I have no problem pointing them out. Anyway, If anyone in the professor situation should be termed racist, it should be the neighbor and not the cop. The cop was doing his job. He was called in on a B & E. I can gaurentee you that the Professor started arguing right away with something along the lines of "What? A black man can't lock himself out of his house?". He could have calmly walked the cop inside and showed him a picture of his familly. If the Professor would have shown a picture of himself in the house calmly, this would never have hit the news. He is the one who turned it into a race issue and the President had no buisness commenting on it. I'm surprised Obama hasn't created a Czar of Racial Relations because of it, because what we really need is more government officials.

  2. I just realized the worst part about the dead people pencils. I am a pencil chewer!!!! EEEWWWWWWWWWW!!!!! That is disgusting. I know the dead person part would be inside wood, but it's still super gross to think about. I don't chew on caskets holding dead bodies.

  3. I don't think you or Chappelle are any kind of racists. Denying differences between races and cultures shows ignorance. Celebrating, making fun of, or pointing out those differences can be hilarious and extremely helpful, and Chappelle did that brilliantly. I don't think you laughing at stereotypes is racist, it's no different than laughing at any kind of joke.

The problem is when idiots use stereotypes negatively/falsely and base their opinions of people solely on stereotypes. There are a lot of bad drivers here in SC that are Asian, but I lived in Asia amongst many good drivers, and I ate way more chicken than my black roommate, and I know a lot of legal Mexican immigrants, etc...

We've all probably laughed at an inappropriate racist joke, we've all probably thought stereotypes were universally true, and that sucks. Growing up in Greenville didn't do any of us any favors in terms of diversity or a broad world view. Show's like Chappelle's, Chris Rock/Richard Pryor/George Carlin's stand-up, etc. are examples of how some intelligent discussion and comedy in the media can actually advance things - for me at least. I'm thankful that my mind and life are open to everyone.

If Obama were white, nobody would care. People make him the black crusader. Nobody in the Professor situation was racist at all in my opinion. The 911 caller only answered a question, the copper was doing his job, and the professor was angry about locking himself out and took it out on the situation... I'm sure the right loves it because it made the Black President look racist for a split second. Obama went to Harvard, probably knows (certainly knows of) Gates, so he commented when black people wanted him too.

Wouldn't life be better if we were all just tan and hung out?

  4. We would have to wear the same clothes, style our hair the same way, listen to the same music, watch the same media and eat the same food, too. I think it's the hero/villan syndrome. People need someone to hate. We don't feel right unless we have an enemy to try to vanquish. Maybe hate is the only way to experience love. I don't know what it is, but I do believe that it is in human nature to hate.
