ReplyDeletePARKER GETS IT!!! AMAZING!!!
ReplyDeleteI'd like to discuss the fact that Hempfield Elementary School didn't show Obama's school speech due to uproar from parents. How insane is this? Imagine all the other dumb shit these students watch and do at home, but they can't hear the president speak? And even if he would have said anything partisan (like Reagan did when he spoke to students, but which Obama would never do because he's a huge fucking pussy), why would that be the end of the world? Aren't students supposed to be exposed to more than one viewpoint? If you want retarded little clones of yourself that have all the same opinions and knowledge, just let them stay at home and tell them everything you know.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you to a point, Jarrod. There should be no problem with kids hearing the president speak, and what he had to say was actually pretty inspiring. However, I also think that maybe we as a collective are seeing way too much of Obama. Stalin, Hitler, Castro, and Saddam posted their image throughout their respective countries to let the people know who was in charge and make the illusion that "Big Brother" is everywhere watching everything you do. I'm not going to say that Obama wants to be a dictator....yet. I think maybe he should try to stay off of the television for one whole day at least. The country elected a President, not a reality TV star.
ReplyDeleteI don't think many dictators spent the first part of their "terms" trying so hard to be centrists to the point of pissing off the people who elected him. A supposed liberal who has abandoned pretty much every truly liberal idea he campaigned with. Let's not forget that it was the Bush administration who actually decided the government should watch everything that we do, whether or not his face was posted everywhere. So which is worse? Obama has about as much ambition and chance to become a dictator as a reality TV star.
ReplyDeleteI personally don't think we are seeing enough of politicians and since TV is the medium of choice, I think Obama and others should make more of an effort to reach us on it. If that interferes with our So you think you can dance show, oh well. Otherwise, all this misinformation is spread, because instead of hearing from actual politicians or finding out what is actually in bills, we are getting our information from Hannity, Beck, Limbaugh, Olbermann, Palin, and other pundits and talking heads and finding out that Obama wants to kill grandma, give insurance to illegal immigrants, and spread socialist lies to our children.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that anyone cares about the content of Obama's speech to schools is stupid. If your kids are so easily brainwashed then that's just a tribute to your terrible parenting. I didn't show it in my class, but that's because I was teaching Algebra 2 and the kids can all go see it on YouTube later if they want.
ReplyDeleteI've always thought that all politicians should do more to let the people know what they're doing. A simple podcast would do the trick. There's not that much to it, really. Not doing it is just lazy.
I don't think there's a way for the president to not be on TV every day. I think, for better or worse, it's been that way for a while and it's not going to change. Obama has yet to commission murals on the side of every city hall. While the line between news and and propaganda is sometimes unclear, I don't see Obama crossing that line. Of course, I don't have a TV. Perhaps that would be helpful in general.
It's also important to counter spin. If someone said that my plan for teaching kids math would be to feed them marshmallows all day, I should be able to say that's not true. When we keep hearing rumors of Obama Death Panels, we're going to hear more from Obama simply to say it's dishonest.
We have to hear about what is in the bills being run through Congress from the pundits because our elected officials don't actually read them anymore. They are too long and senators and reps are much too important to spend the time doing the job they were elected for when they could be taking kickbacks from lobbiests instead. I think the internet is the perfect media for all politicians to keep us abreast of all of the "Good" they are doing for us.
ReplyDeleteLike the pundits found a section regarding death panels because they read the bill? Please. Some nut just comes up with these ideas and then the news and these uneducated entertainers will just give them airtime for ratings purposes. Hannity claims to have read every word of all these health care bills. Gimme a break. I guess he missed the section which stated that no illegal immigrants will receive any health care subsidies whatsoever. It would be so easy for anyone to just do their own research and call bullshit on these people on TV. But I guess that's just our mainstream liberal media for you, giving more than equal time to the insane.
ReplyDeleteWhether Liberal or conservative, the mainstream media sucks. I don't give any credit to any of those outlets. It is truly sad when the most trusted man in media is a comedian. Everybody should thank Allah for John Stewart. He may be a tad too liberal for my liking, but I am more inclined to believe what he says over anyone on Fox, MSNBC or CNN.
ReplyDeletehaha exactly.
