Corrections:

Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin attended five colleges (in Hawaii, Alaska, and Idaho) in six years before graduating from the University of Idaho in 1987 with a degree in Journalism. Sports management was on my mind during the show because friend-of-the-show Dennis DiRaimondo will graduate next month (!) with that degree. Congratulations to him!

People without facebook pics are either:
A) Older users who aren't sure how to add
B) Trying to act like they're above posting a pic
C) Fat and/or ugly... not to mention annoying!
Also - becoming a "fan" of asinine things, is. 'not being on fire'... so unnecessary and turning facebook into myspace

Talked about some torture memos.

Paul's Notes:
Gun bans in DC, Chicago

Palin pro-choice? Not really, but this shows a sort of human side.

  1. so. in the interest of full disclosure, i didn't start listening to the show until two weeks ago ... so my QOTW answer is going to oddly enough, a guess.

    QOTW answer: david.

... also, i must have issues if i keep answer these questions on a weekly basis :P

  2. "Chillax bro." A 4th category for not having a facebook pic is unfortunately: "My digital camera from 1995 connects to computers via a jack which hasn't existed for 10 years."

  3. ok. so i did some research in attempts to go for the 3-peat slash i needed something to listen to while browsing the world wide web ...

and my second, QOTW guess, and i call it a guess because everything was a bit foggy is: son david ... with no capitals, which i can appreciate, because i don't like capital letters either.

ok. no more comments this evening.

  4. JOY: Not since Jordan has there been such a glorious three-peat!!! Awesome!

Jarrod: Just remember how I stuck up for you! And I'm also a big fan of John's voice. Perhaps it's just nostalgia, but it's always candy for my ears.

  5. I agree with John on the music. It does seem like the 90's music was something worth listening to, lyric wise.

  6. I completely agree with John about Obama. He was billed as the anti-politician and the great black hope. He was going to get into office and bring our boys home and stop all of the frivolous spending. Since he has been in office he has signed orders to move our boys over a couple hundred miles and he has spent a bunch of money to go to Gang Tat removal and other interests. There is an airport getting $1.5 million dollars and they only service about 20 passengers a day. Most of the money has disappeared into the mysterious banker vortex. The only different between bush and obama is the color of one set of grandparents. Politicians suck.

P.S. John also mentioned Palin needing to spend some times as a Senator for awile before being president. Actually, Governers have way more experience in handling a budget. Senators just deal with enacting stupid laws that have pay raises for themselves attached to them.

  7. I basically mean that Palin needs more experience overall, even as a just a speaker and a person who has a somewhat limited world view. That down-home stuff is fine, but raising the level of discourse in America is never a bad thing - and to Obama's credit he has done that. We all know how inexperienced young politicians can be, but sometimes less time in DC is a benefit.

Accepting and assuming that they're all full of it, I do like Obama and I wouldn't mind Palin as much if she would just try a little harder instead of relying on saying "maverick," being pretty, and winking. They all have their gimmicks. Maybe she should hire Obama's 08 campaign staff in 2012... she might even get the Rolling Stone cover.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I'm going to ask a question here. How many people really thought Obama could do all that stuff? Sure, quite a few voted in hopes for something better, but sometimes we have to be more realistic in what we thing can get done.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Lots of people thought Obama would do all of the stuff he said. Those same people didn't know the difference between a republican and a democrat 2 years ago and came out in record numbers to vote like Obama was their favorite video on TRL. To be brutally honest here, we all know there were 2 reasons that 95% of Obama's voters voted for him. 1. He is (half)BLACK. 2. He wasn't Bush and they made it apparent that he was anti-Bush while they made McCain come off all "Republicany". Since he has been in office there has been no difference between the two. Instead of the Bush-like tax cuts for big buisness we're going to raise their taxes and blatantly give money them taxpayer money.

Politics suck. We're slowly voting away all of our freedoms that weren't removed via the Patriot Act. The illusion of choice brings us the same old douchebags over and over again.

  10. Its funny that I called Dave during the show because I as calling to find out where this weeks episode was... I think a lot of people did believe that Obama would do something different than previous presidents. I was a huge fan of Ron Paul as well as Huckabee because I truly believed they would actually make every attempt they could to change the direction America is going. I was a fan of McCain but after making such a ridiculous choice for VP that changed. I think if he would've picked a better VP candidate the election may have been closer and maybe ended differently. While Palin is very attractive she was not the right person for that job at this time...

    ReplyDelete
  11. I just think that some people are easily lead, which leads to them being easily mislead. During the whole election process, my main though was whether or not I get to keep my job. Yes, I was just as worried about the economy, healthcare, and taxes, like the average joe.

I think what I want to say is it seems really unrealistic to think that Obama can make all these changes happen so quickly. Let's look at how long the military has been in Germany and South Korea. How long has it been since those two wars ended? I'm not saying I want my brothers and sisters to stay there any longer than they have to, but I am saying that expecting us to leave right away seems unrealistic.

  12. John and Dave rock! You goes are the next Bob and Tom! Keep up the good work.

  13. Ali, I agree that nobody SHOULD have thought Obama could do all that he promised, but the fact is alot of people did. All ignorant about government altogether. Some of those voters even thought he was going to do more for them than he promised. Do you remember the sound byte from the day after the election? It was a black lady practically crying saying that she didn't have to worry about her rent any more and other stupid garbage that I can't quite recall all of it rediculous for a normal adult to think any color president could possibly do.

The problem is ignorance. I heard an interview of a group of people before the election. These people thought Obama was a republican and Palin was his running mate. Furthermore, I heard two people say the main reason they were voting for him was his ANTI-Abortion stance. Guess they didn't feel like saying "We are the same color". I don't want to say you shouldn't be allowed to vote if you are uninformed. You should choose not to or get some education about it. Watch the news. Something. Get the facts straight at least. Ya know?

    ReplyDelete
  14. I don't know about anyone else but the last couple presidential elections I felt like I had to choose which candidate was less terrible as opposed to someone actually worth voting for. Its like both parties want a mindless figure head in the white house that will do their bidding and not actually try to better the country.

  15. During Kerry/Bush election, South Park had the most relevant episode they have ever had. In it, the boys had to vote between a Giant Douche and a Turd Sandwich. Hillarity insued, but the point was well taken. What is the point of voting if my only choices are a giant douche and a turd sandwich. Nuff Said.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yeah Parker, I do believe it's important to be educated on who or what you're voting for. Here's something I wasn't educated on: Even though you can supposedly write in your canidate, the Texas ballot gave a selection to chose from. Uhm, doesn't that pretty much defeat the whole purpose? They had the guy I was looking for, but I was still a little bit miffed.

  17. I would think that anyone buying hype into any politician simply doesn't understand the job they're applying for. The president, while having a lot of power, is quite constricted by a number of other checks. And even when things are within his power, if you burn too many bridges you won't be able to do anything later on. Even if Obama was Jesus Christ (which is still up for debate in some circles), it still wouldn't help him get a bill through committee. There's only so much that anyone in the office can do.

The whole point of the electoral college is that people aren't well informed enough to elect a president. Not much has changed in over two centuries. Even though our ability to communicate has increased exponentially, we use that ability mostly to check on our relationship status on Facebook.

And it's complicated, only because that sounds better than lonely.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Wow Dave, didn't you just kind of bust yourself out on that one?

Maybe people need a refresher course as to how the Presidency works. Man, I failed Social Studies and had to take it again in High School, mainly because I didn't want to be there. It might be why I remember that the President DOESN'T hold all the power. Do people just easily forget the whole checks and balances thing?

Dave, John, I think you should do a street quiz thing like Jay Leno (I think that's the right one) and see how many people get that. Game?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Normally, the President doesn't hold all the power. However, when his party controls the Senate, he does have quite a bit of power. And since Arlen Spector jumped ship, and when Al Franken finally takes his seat, the Democratic Senate will be filabuster-proof. There will be no way for the Republicans to block any bill that will slide on through for Obama to sign. Which he will because it's his party.

It happened before at the begining of the Clinton admin. Clinton made alot of promises that he didn't keep. He didn't cut taxes to the middle class like he said he would. He immediatly got in with a democratic senate and spending increased. By Clintonss second term, the Republicans had regained control of the senate and we ended up with a surplus that Clinton takes credit for. Any of that sound familliar?

We are boned for awhile. Once the Reps. take a few seats back, the real "Checks and balances" will continue. This is why I don't like the two party system. Or the party system at all for that matter. I would say vote for me next time, but apparently we can't even truly write in anymore.

  20. Sooo I was thinking that if the government wouldve given the tax paying American citizens all this money we have handed out for bail puts the economy would be A LOT better off. And now they are handing the reigns of GM to the government and money grubbing unions. They'll really help the economy.

    ReplyDelete
  21. That would have been the smartest Idea all along. If the government gave me $20,000 It would have went towards debt. If have of the taxpayers are like me, the crisis would be a long way towards over. If my truck was paid off with my other debt, I would buy a new one. If half of the taxpayers were like me, chrystler would be fine even with wage grubbing employees and CEOs.

    ReplyDelete
  22. When it comes to the money the problem is either:

A: The government took too much money in the first place.

B: They didn't have the money in the first place.

I don't think that giving a windfall to the public would do us any good. Most lottery winners end up worse off than when they started. A better practice would be an income tax cut. I would rather have Uncle Sam take less than give more. It's easier to do and is more equitable. Any rebates should go to actual tax payers!

That Specter switch was amazing, and will change the game. It seemed like the party seats were going to align one or two short. But, no need to reach across the isle when you won it.

It seems like other countries can function with more than one party... But even if we could all agree on the solution would we have the will to change our system? IDK!?!?!?!

The sad conclusion is that democracy doesn't work, especially on the federal level. We cannot get people into congress other than people who are career politicians who are good at wooing the ignorant masses.

I think we'll get more into the car industry as we go...

    ReplyDelete
  23. Parker, I feel like a bit of an idiot for forgetting about the Congress part. Huge smack for us as a nation. Bleh, the other parties out there really need to do more to get themselves noticed by the public. If I have to be a part of that, then I will be. I feel like we're becoming less the United States and more just America.

    ReplyDelete
  24. If anything we need to go to paying more sales tax and less if no income tax. I do have to agree with Parker though, if they gave the American public $20,000 (though I thought it was more than that...) most people would either pay off debt or go out and blow it but either way the money would be being distributed diplomatically meaning all the masses would do what they wanted with the money. We gave all this damn money to huge companies and they are still foreclosing on poor people that are unable to pay their mortgage because they lost their jobs and still spending a HELL of a lot of money on bullshit. I think the government getting involved in GM and giving 49% control in the unions hands is a terrible idea. If companies can't change with the times and adjust to the hard times like now unfortunately too bad for them... Who is going to bail me out if I can't find a way to get through this time? Who is going to help me keep my house/car/goods. Granted the government will give me money to pay for food but only if I lost my job and wasn't working... I would have to agree with Ali that this is becoming more like America and not United States and our Federal Government is making it any better. Its really too bad that we can't vote someone into the Senate if they don't have millions of money to put into a campaign and already have some political agenda not geared towards making America better.
