  1. John, Dave, do either of you remember Nascar 98, the Playstation game? It shot paint balls from the front of your car and I LOVED it. Cars would flip over on the track. Sigh, sometimes I wish I had that on my truck.

  2. On the subject of the nice guy not finishing last: Hmmm, I'm not gonna lie here. If I meet a guy and I'm not attracted to him in some manner, I'm not gonna stick around dating wise. I don't care how nice he is, he could kill me with kindness and I'm still not going to stay. However, what attracts me to a guy isn't always the same. My girlfriends will sometimes say to me, "Ali, what the heck? He's not even that cute." What attracts me to one guy doesn't always get me with the next dude.

I went to a tech school in hopes to advance my knowledge in avionics (aircraft electronics). I know it sounds odd, but I kind of got screwed a little bit. The counselor basically put me at one campus where I never touched an aircraft, but I let him talk me into it. I did manage to learn more about computers, which is very closely related to my job now, so I can't complain too much. However, there was a campus in Norfolk that would have given me what I really wanted.

Hey, why not nudge kids more towards joining the military to get that training they need. In my field, most aviation companies want so many years of experience if you just want to be a mech or elec. Bell Amarillo has been good about hiring locals who took the Bell courses at Amarillo College.

Texas has the Lonestar car instead of foodstamps. I think it's much like a debit card deal. I know at our local grocery store, United, you can't use it to purchase Salad Bar because whenever Gabi and I get a salad from them, the sign is posted on all the windows around it.

  3. That's because it is considered prepared food. You can't get it with the grub stub "access" card up here in PA either. You can get all of the ingredients that are on the salad bar separately (if your balance allows) and make it all yourself.

  4. I have seen people getting prepared food at Sheetz with the Access card, aka food stamp debit... maybe they look the other way, maybe there are loopholes, I don't know. I am not anti-welfare, or anti-prepared food buying with it. I just don't think marijuana is the same as a cheeseburger as far as sustaining life goes. I'd rather have the weed, but since it has no calories I can't really justify it food government assistance.

A policy is not a person.

I'd just as soon do away with 90% of the federal government than try to reform it.

  5. I haven't listened to the show yet, so I have no comment about that. But I'd like to let you know that I was publicly reprimanded for my AM1980 love. I was at a math seminar, and I was following the speaker's talk by reading through 2 open pdf's. I also had an AM1980 window open because I had been listening earlier. As I was switching from one pdf to the other, the speaker happened to walk by, and intermediately my AM1980 window was the one that was on my screen. He was like "this guy is watching a video" because he saw your faces and the play button on top of the screen (I listen from the blog). So then later I had to go explain to him that it wasn't a video but an internet radio show I had been listening to earlier. So maybe you'll get another listener, but I doubt it.

  6. I think I'm okay with the debit card deal. I think the only thing I don't like is that when I was stationed at Fort Hood back in 2001-2003, I was a single mother soldier who wasn't getting any child support. I tried to get food stamps because I was just barely making enough, but I was turned away. Know why? Because Fort Hood decided to privatize my housing. That meant I was getting BAH on one side of my paycheck and it was coming out on the other side to give to the civilian contractors. I got hosed.

  7. I get tired of thinking and talking about this shit all the time. . . Where's the fun? It's all a joke anyway.
