QOTW (1): What week did we first use an alternative pic for the podcast?
QOTW (2): Where was that picture taken?
You may NOT get both questions! If you answer both, you will not get credit.

  1. What! I bet my nemesis for the first post. I have NO clue what the answers are to this week's double QOTW. I just wanted to beat Rob on the first post.

  2. Oh, I so have a passive-aggressive side. Don't believe me? Ask Mauriella about that. I have an ex that has the same problem as John does. Every time I was over at his apt, I'd have to hear about his roommate and the mess. I just wanted to b slap him a few times and tell him to grow a pair and confront the roomie. Never happened.

    Ask a White Guy question. Hmm, I think it's ingrained in our mind at a younger age, so some of us do it out of habit. I'm not really excusing it, but it happens. Actually, since I've moved here, I've experienced racism, but not in the typical manner. I refer to when guys turn around and say, "Oh, you won't date me 'cause I'm Mexican or because I'm Black" That's so stupid, I hate it, but I've heard it so much over the past 4 years. Annoying and it's also a quick way to get me turned away. From that moment, I know I'll never be an equal.

    Lent isn't just for Catholic's. Any church that follows the Liturgical Calender follows Lent. I do Lent and I'm Episcopalian. It's not just about giving up stuff, you can take on things. It's more about discipline, not like slap your face discipline, but better yourself discipline.

  3. Thanks for a year's worth of quality entertainment!

  4. @Jarrod - You got it!!!

    @Ali - Thanks for the clarification. Lent follows the idea of fasting... Making sacrifices with the goal of focusing on what's important in life. And whenever kids tell me that I don't like them because they're Cuban or Black, I'd usually say "I don't hate Cubans, just you," and I'd hope they'd get the joke. Haven't been fired yet!!!

    @Everyone - Thanks for listening this year!

  5. John, I haven't had too much time to mess around with those math problems you've posted on FB, but maybe today I'll find some time.

    On the HOA thing, we lived in one when we resided close to NAS Oceana. Let's just say the children in our house manage to piss off a neighbor and they would call us in on the lawn not being right, the trash can not being put up, or whatever. Thankfully they moved. The funny thing? We didn't live in a McMansion style house, but that lady hated us!

  6. Aww... John loves the maths too, now!

  7. And Jarrod joins the + Club!!! I'll have to take care of incentives for that on next week's show...

  8. So, if we're in the + club, are we just a little cooler? I know, if I have to ask, it's no, but I thought I'd try anyway.

  9. @Ali - Well, I'll definitely have to make some cookies, and maybe there's something else that's cool that we can do. John and I will chat this week.

    @Robby - WHAT HAPPENED!?!?!?

    @Donnie - Your hat is still in my car. What's your address? If you don't check the blog, I will not send you it.

    @ALL - I'm also enjoying some old shows...

  10. @Ali - Dave and I grew up in the Crystal-Methodist denomination. We followed the liturgical calendar, but nobody gave up shit. Except for acceptance of others, love, tolerance, and reading the Bible... but that was year-round.

    @Jarrod - Huffamoose.

    Where is Robby's comment?!

    ReplyDelete
  11. @Dave & John: Yeah, where is Robby?! Also, I didn't even know what Lent was about until just a few years back. I just remember that we had a Pancake supper every year and that part was pretty cool. Giving up stuff would work, if it was something people would actually stick with.

  13. John, John Gottman can be your solution of the week for your passive aggressive behavior. His books are great!

    And John, you want to make all drugs legal, right? But then punish people for using them and getting welfare? Let's be consistent. The only reason that some states are even thinking about this is because they could bar users from welfare because it's illegal; not just because it's not good for you or a waste of time. So where are you going to draw the line. Can they smoke cigs? Drink Mt. Dew? How about twinkies? Or how about hot dogs and chips? Most of the cheep food in the stores are not healthy options.

    Entering Foster Care is a traumatic event - for both the kid and the parent and is not the solution for poor parenting. It's a broken system because there are not enough foster parents and child welfare only steps in when there is a crisis and things are REALLY bad. How about spending more money keeping young parents from having babies and getting good education and support for parents to prevent child abuse and drunk/high parents. I really like the work of Jeffery Canada - Harlem Children's Zone.

    I hope that you both become foster parents someday.

  14. @Kate: I will read Gottman because I am a passive-aggressive mess sometimes, and it's becoming bothersome in my life. I have to agree with your statements on foster care. Proactive is always better than reactive.

    I totally zinged you on the show we just recorded about the welfare/drug thing. Getting that money is essentially like working for someone (without the whole annoying "going to work" part), and jobs can restrict behavior they find detrimental to the job. Most jobs have requirements that employees might not like or agree with, but nobody makes them work there. Nobody forces anyone to be on welfare. It is a privilege and a benefit that should have a lot more reforms and stipulations, and drug testing is a small part of the system being broken. My money should go towards my drug habits, not the habits of the unemployed. If my drug use causes me to mess up and need the government's help, I should have to give up the drugs to get help and fix my life. Legalizing is partially about responsible use.
